NJPW: Ultimate Crush

Lyoto Machida in his MMA debut. The fight was held at NJPW - Ultimate Crush. Unfortunately the 2nd round is missing and is nowhere to be found.

The man in the suit is Antonio Inoki - legendary pro wrestler, Japanese MMA pioneer and Lyoto's former promoter. The punch that he does after the fight is the Toukon "Fighting spirit" slap - it's supposed to bring good luck.

The Toukon "Fighting spirit" slap came about when Inoki was visiting a school. Some random kid punched Inoki twice, and he responded with a slap that knocked the kid down. The kid got up, bowed deeply, and thanked him for the slap. It was all over the TV in japan. After that celebrities and everyday people ask Inoki for the slap to give them courage or a blessing.

Jungle Fight 1

Lyoto Machida vs Stephan Bonnar which is Machida's second fight in his MMA career at the first "Jungle Fight 1" event, Machida shows off his great Karate technique in the face of Bonnar, Bonnar is completely outclassed from the word go.

Stephen Bonnar is no push over in MMA, being 3 fights unbeaten prior to this fight with Machida, he also went on to win the next three after this defeat. Bonnar also went on to fight in the UFC defeating names like Keith Jardine, James Irvin and Eric Schafer.

Stephen Bonnar is still fighting in the UFC with a bout against Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 116.

Lyoto Machida vs Rich Franklin, Machida's third bout in his MMA career, Franklin prior to this fight was 14 unbeaten, fighting twice in the UFC an dominating. After this fight he went another 8 unbeaten, by doing this he became a fan favourite with the UFC crowd an becoming the Middleweight Champion. He defended it twice before losing it to Lyoto Machida's training partner Anderson Silva.

Machida completely dominated Franklin in both this ground game an stand up, if after this people didnt realise he were gonna be a big star for MMA its crazy, i can't believe it took the UFC so long after this fight to sign him.

Lyoto Machida VS Michael McDonald, Machida's forth fight in MMA which he successfully goes 4 unbeaten against a strong Michael McDonald.

Michael McDonald, only had two fights in MMA, the other against Rick Roufus. McDonald went on to kick boxing becoming a very big name, In 2004 he won the K-1 World Grand Prix in Las Vagas, which the award was handed out by none other than Muhammad Ali accompanied by Mike Tyson, to of boxing's biggest names.

Machida took the game to the ground an completely dominated McDonald with the simplest of chokes.

Lyoto Machida VS Sam Greco, Machida's fifth fight in MMA, against another kick boxer trying to make it in MMA. Greco had 5 fights an only lost his one against Machida when he lasted the distance, 3 five minutes rounds.

This is a very good fight, Machida's domination throughout picks him yet another win here. Greco was definitely a harder challenge then his last fight against Michael McDonald, showing that kick boxers if they learn the ground game can make it in MMA. Even if Sam Greco didnt make a name for himself in MMA, he went on to "TKO" Heath Herring after his fight in the first round, i believe him lasting the full 3 rounds with someone as brilliant as Machida can talk for itself.

You have to think, Machida has already knocked out Rich Franklin and Stephen Bonnar previous to this fight. Its shows how tough Sam Greco is. Greco's Kick boxing career talks for itself as well,

Lyoto Machida VS B.J. Penn, Lyoto Machida's sixth fight in MMA, again lasting the full duration 3 rounds of 5 minutes and stretching Machida's unbeaten run to an impressive six. B.J. Penn after this fight has become one of the best pound for pound fighters in MMA, an known as the best lightweight in the UFC but has recently lost his UFC lightweight belt, at UFC 113 against Frankie Edgar an also was the UFC welterweight champion beating none other than Matt Hughes at UFC 46.

B.J. Penn after this fight went on to fight massive names like Matt Hughes(UFC 46 - UFC 63), George St Pierre(UFC 58 - UFC 94), Shane Sherk(UFC 84), Deigo Sanchez(UFC 107) an the list goes on. An successfully defended his UFC lightweight belt 3 times.

In this fight B.J. Penn weighed in at 86.5kg (191 lb) an Machida at 102kg (220lb), it is a very aggressive fight with none stop action in all rounds. B.J. Penn thought Lyoto Mahcida, was a very mysterious fighter an thats why he wanted to fight him. Penn's MMA record when he took this fight was (9W - 1L - 1D) an was the current UFC welterweight champion. B.J. Penn became the first non-Brazilian to win the black belt division of the world Jiu-Jitsu Championship held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Most people need more than a decade to become a black belt, Penn had, in only three years of training, not only received a black belt but defeated people who had been training all their entire lives.

B.J. Penn started his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training in 1997 under none other than Ralph Gracie eventually earning his purple belt with Gracie, At that point he moved to Nova Uniao where he was eventually awarded his black belt by Andre Pederneiras.

Jungle Fight 6

Lyoto Machida VS Dimitri Wanderley, Machida's seventh fight in this MMA career, this took place on 29/04/2006, Dimitri Wanderley is pretty much an unknown fighter, only having 5 fights in this MMA career even tho after this fight / loss he went on to defeat Yusuke Masuda in a fight round TKO an defeated Leandro Silva in a first round TKO. Wanderley stopped fighting after the Silva fight bringing his MMA to

(7)Fights - 5W(3TKO) - 2L(2TKO) - 0D

Dimitri Wanderley, came out fists flying at the start of the first round an even tried to pull off a guillotine choke in the first starting seconds of the fight, but this resulted in Machida being on top, this gave Machida chance to show of some ground an pound, but Dimitri Wanderley had allot of heart an got it to a stand up battle again an even managed to hit Lyoto with a rocket right hand that cut his face. The first sign in Lyotos MMA career showing that he is human. Round 1 ended in a slug fest, what MMA fans love to see.

The start of the second was a stand up battle until Lyoto Machida showed his pin point striking an accuracy so Dimitri Wanderley took it to the ground but Machida had cut him badly with his stand up so the referee had to get the doctor in, after the doctor said it was ok to continue, the fight stayed on its feet, with Machida still dominating, an at one point dropping Dimitri Wanderley but as in boxing terms, "was saved by the bell"

The third an last round is were Lyoto Machida ended it, it started of lively but Dimitri Wanderley fell down with exhaustion an could not get up, no wonder he didnt make it in MMA, no body gives up like that, it was a shame cos it didnt sum up what a fight it was for Machida, TKO stoppage third round bringing Lyoto Machida's MMA
Record to

(7)Fights - 7W(4TKO) - 0L - 0D

WFA: King Of The Streets

Lyoto Machida VS Vernon White, Machida's eight fight in MMA an his debut in the United States Of America, his opponent Vernon White has had 53 fights up to this, an out of them 53 had won 24 which 9 were by TKO. People knew very little about Lyoto Machida in the states at this time an had no clue he was gonna be as big a name as he is now. Vernon White before this match had been in the octagon with Chuck Liddell at UFC 49, but was stopped by the former light heavyweight champion in the first round with a punch.

Vernon White came out strong at the start of this fight, catching a kick from Lyoto Machida bringing the fight to the ground, but Machida powered through an when the fight was stood back up he showed the great stand up which has bin seen throughout he MMA career. He rocks Vernon White a few times in this round but Vernon shows his experience an recovers very well.

The second round was just the to fighters feeling each over out, both fighters have completely different styles of fighting but Lyoto Machida managed to seal the round by taking the fight to the ground towards the end. I score the fight 2 rounds to Machida so far but people have different thoughts about this one.

Third round again started slow, but Machida grabbed an tripped Vernon White to get a dominant back position which nearly resulted in White getting submitted with a rear-neck choke but White did very well to spin out of it an get on top of Machida an in his full guard. Once the fight was back on its feet again, Machida did enough to seal this round, it wasn't Lyoto's best performance but nor was it a bad one. Machida won the match with a decision, a well deserved decision win.

This brought Lyoto Machida's
 Record to
(8)Fights - 8W(4TKO) - 0L - 0D

After this fight Lyoto was signed by the UFC (Ultimate FIghting Championship)
